Training – general

Guy Shennan Associates are tried, tested and trusted trainers in the field of solution focused practice and its many applications.

We offer training

  • that is commissioned by a team or organisation
  • via occasional public, open access courses

Courses are commissioned by agencies from a variety of contexts, including

  • Health
  • Social care
  • Education
  • Organisational change

What the teams and agencies we train have in common is that they are engaged in working towards change, and use communication at various levels to help this to happen.

Our training includes introductory and advanced courses in solution focused practice, that are either generalist, or focus on particular activities, including

  • Therapy and counselling
  • Groupwork
  • Individual and team coaching
  • Consultation and supervision
  • Child protection

Our experience in training, in delivering workshops and short presentations, as well as in organising and hosting larger conferences, enables us to offer courses that go beyond solution focused practice, for example in

  • Communication skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Being creative in training
  • And many more areas besides

If you want to know more about our training and about what we can offer you, your team or your organisation, then please do get in touch.

In February 2013, Martin Oswin wrote a generous blogpost about our training  – Martin attended a four-day course that Guy ran several years ago, has since completed the BRIEF Diploma in Solution-Focused Practice, and is a rapidly rising star in the solution-focused cosmos! He attended another course Guy ran in January 2013.

Here is what some other people who have received our training have said:

“Thank you for your outstanding workshop that you conducted for the 2008 Conference on Solution Focused Practices”
(the annual conference of SFBTA, the American Solution-Focused Brief Therapy Association)

“Thanks for the slides and for delivering such a great training! It was intense but especially the many group work/partner work exercises really drummed it into us, I believe. Oh and as I am very much a visual learner, I have to say that your little “side step dance” throughout really made me understand what you were saying, so keep on stepping!”

“Thank-you for your patience and tolerance last week but most of all for the inspirational way you delivered the information”
introductory course participant, 2010

“Thanks for the brilliant training”
children’s services worker, 2010

“Thank you for the slides and more importantly for the training you gave us! I have been using the practice a lot and it has already been incredibly useful in my work”
substance misuse worker, 2011

“Great session Guy – really well woven practice and video and reflection and time for questions and discussion. Thanks a lot!”
